Eat Sleep Think: What Really Keeps You Going When the Going Gets Tough

Last month, we joined Kaz Williams of Mettle Running at Hôtel Les Aiglons in Chamonix for Eat Sleep Think. An event dedicated to the three pillars that every trail and ultra-runner relies on when the going gets tough: nutrition, sleep, and mindset.

The room was packed, with a great turnout from the Chamonix trail community. Runners who train hard and want to understand what makes the difference on the day when legs and head start to disagree.

Dietitian Rebecca Dent explained how to build and test a real eating strategy, one that holds up on race day. Two pitfalls await even seasoned athletes: a stomach that refuses to cooperate, and energy crashing halfway through.

Sleep specialist, Dr. Charlotte Edelsten, put rest in its rightful place: a performance tool, not wasted time. Sleep is one of the foundations on which all other behaviors rest. She shared concrete methods for protecting sleep before the race and managing it during the effort.

Kaz Williams, a performance psychologist and certified running coach, spoke to us about managing discomfort during a race: learning to calm the stream of thoughts and continue making the right decisions is what transforms "I want to stop" into true achievement.

Recovery Balm was there to listen and learn, alongside everyone else, because recovery is part of the same story. Taking care of your body before, during, and after exertion is what allows you to start again the next day.

A big thank you to Kaz and the entire team for hosting us, and to every runner who filled that room. Performance is much more than just a story of miles.
